Mrs. Lillian Henderson, 93, of Elon, died on Monday, August 21, 2017 at her residence.
A native of Robeson County, NC, she was the wife of Walt Henderson, who survives, and the daughter of George F. Humphrey and Nettie May Humphrey, both deceased. She was a 1945 graduate of Meredith College. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Henderson served as the Educational Director for the First Baptist Church of Burlington, the First Baptist Church of New Bern, and the First Baptist Church of Rockingham. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Burlington and the church choir. She was also a member of the Alamance Chorale. Mrs. Henderson did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels of Alamance County, Alamance Regional Medical Center, Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance County and the American Red Cross.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two children, George Henderson and wife Mary of Brighton, MI and Jean Henderson Ligon and husband Mike of Lexington, KY; three grandchildren, Jill Ligon Davis and husband Ryan of Louisville, KY, Kevin Ligon of Seattle, WA, and Weston Henderson of Wallburg, NC; daughter-in-law, Mary Beth Henderson of Wallburg, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, John Weston Henderson and four sisters, Margaret Humphrey, Mary Eisenhauer, Georgia Carr, and Sarah Humphrey.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Alamance Memorial Park with Dr. Terry Peele officiating. A reception will follow at First Baptist Church of Burlington. At other times the family will be at the residence.
