Joseph "Dan" Dollar

Mr. Joseph “Dan” Dollar, 84, of Snow Camp passed away peacefully after a year’s battle with Parkinson’s Disease on Wednesday, November 15, 2017.

A native of Chatham County, he was the husband of Joann Ivey Dollar and the son of Ernest Dollar and Helen Hackney Dollar, both deceased.  Dan was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War.  He retired from AT&T/Lucent Technologies.  After retirement he worked for more than 10 years as a University Public Safety Officer in Chapel Hill.  He was a member of Center United Methodist Church, a member of the Snow Camp American Legion and a former member of the Eli Whitney Ruritan Club.  Dan never met a stranger and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Mr. Dollar is survived by his wife, Joann of the home; daughter, Benita D. Griffin of Snow Camp; his two granddaughters, who were the apple of his eye, Emily Griffin and Ivey Griffin; sister, Barbara Ann Sparrow of Chapel Hill; brother, Archie Dollar of West Jefferson, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. by Dr. James L. Bryan and Rev. Garrett Rea.  Burial will follow in the Center United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Crematory in Graham on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Other times they will be at the residence of his daughter, Benita, 8675 Lindley Mill Rd., Snow Camp, NC 27349.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of Dan’s caregivers during his time of illness.
