Gene William Cathey

Mr. Gene William Cathey, 88, of Graham died at his residence on Saturday, November 4, 2017.

A native of Graham, he was the husband of Patsy Willis Cathey, who survives and the son of William Cathey and Sena Shoffner Cathey, both deceased. Mr. Cathey was a graduate of Graham High School where he was a three-sport letterman. He was an avid Tar Heel fan and involved in coaching youth sports in Alamance County. Mr. Cathey retired from Western Electric. He attended Faith Christian Church.

In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include four children, Michael Cathey, Tony Cathey and wife Myra, Blair Stocker and husband Peter and Karen Mangum and husband Bruce; seven grandchildren, Michael Capps and wife Kendall, Blake Cathey, Jenna Bengel and husband Geoff, Emma Stocker, Ian Stocker, Tracey Smith and husband Brian and Jessica Pope and husband Jourdon; five great-grandchildren, Stella, Jacob, Nicholas, Jaymeson and Kaitlyn; and half-brother, Tommy Cathey. He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Jack Cathey.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. E. Reid Dickens with the family receiving friends from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to Faith Christian Church, P.O. Box 1731, Burlington, NC 27216.
