Obituary
After an extended illness, Zane Sledge Robertson died peacefully in her sleep. She passed on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Hospice Home in Burlington, NC. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday.
Zane was born Emma Zane Sledge on September 18, 1932 in High Point, NC. She was the 3rd of 4 children of Otis Dermont “O.D.” and Mary Ila (Leonard) Sledge. Zane was raised in Graham, NC and graduated from Graham High School. She met her future husband, Jimmie Foxx Robertson, while attending. Following graduation, Zane briefly attended Appalachian State Teacher’s College before her matrimony on July 12, 1953.
Zane and Jimmie were transferred to Washington State temporarily, before returning to Elon, NC to reside permanently. Their son Jimmie Jr. was then born in 1963. She worked at Western Electric for many years.
Zane is survived by her younger sister, Nira Heyer of Mt. Gilead; her sister in law, Jean Poe of Burlington; her daughter in law, Sherry Robertson of Pittsburgh, PA and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her husband Jimmie, her son Jimmie Jr., her sister Ruth Crabtree, and her brother Tommy Sledge.
Zane was a very active, independent woman, who enjoyed reading and needlework. She especially loved doing things for others. She was very generous, thoughtful, and giving. She enjoyed a myriad of social activities. The family would especially like to recognize the workers, friends and acquaintances at Biscuitville on Alamance Rd where she made many happy memories.
A graveside service will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the residence following the graveside service.
