Mr. William P. “Bill” Mann, 88, of Burlington passed away at his residence on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 with his wife by his side.

Mr. Mann was born November 2, 1929 in Alamance County. He was the husband of Shirley S. Mann, who survives and the son of Coy McKinnely and Pearl Isley Mann, both deceased.

Bill’s father was a wholesale merchant who sold to small area stores. His father died in 1949 and Bill became in charge of the business. The business grew and became incorporated into Mann’s Consumer Sales. The brothers, Charles, Ferald and Gerald became officers of the business and played a very important part of the business. Bill became president of Mann’s Consumer Sales. He served on the Board of Directors of Alamance Bank which later merged with BB&T and served on that Board from 1975 – 1999. He served on the Board of Charter Catalog, Atlanta, GA. He was a member of the Bula Lodge #409, Burlington Shriner’s Club and Alco Investment Club.

One of the most important events in his life was being a charter member of Holly Hill Baptist Church. In his earlier years, he served as a Deacon and Trustee and on the Stewardship Committee.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 57 years, Shirley S. Mann; sister, Sara Sizemore; two brothers, Ferald Mann and wife Betty and Gerald Mann; and sister-in-law, Peggie R. Mann. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Clinton Mann; four sisters, Marie Bowlin (Scotty), Martha Lou Mann, Margaret Miles and Nell Snyder (Wally); and brother-in-law, Bill Sizemore.

The funeral service will be conducted at Holly Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. by Dr. Gene Hunsinger with the family receiving friends following the service. A private burial will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holly Hill Baptist Church, 2818 Edgewood Avenue, Burlington, NC 27215.
