W. Louie Madden, 90, of Burlington died in Colorado Springs, CO on Saturday, February 10, 2018.

A native of Belton, SC, he was the husband of the late Lucy Wilson Madden and the son of M. B. Madden and Mary Frances White Madden, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy serving during World War II. Mr. Madden retired from the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Bula Masonic Lodge #409 and the Burlington Shrine Club. This year marked 50 years since he joined the Masonic Lodge. He was also a life member of the Bula Moose Lodge #649 where he was awarded the Pilgrim Degree, the highest degree of the Loyal Order of Moose. Mr. Madden, an avid shag dancer, was a member of the Burlington Shag Club and the Beach Shaggers Hall of Fame in North Myrtle Beach.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah M. Chandler and husband John of Colorado Springs, CO; two grandchildren, John Nathan Chandler and Leighanne Chandler Potts; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Evelyn Spoon, Johnnie Cross and M. B. “Bud” Madden, Jr.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 11:45 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
