William Gerald Lewis, 87, of Burlington passed away on Saturday, November 30. 2019 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of the late Peggy Baldwin Lewis and the son of the late Henry Grady Lewis and the late Martha Jones Lewis. He retired from Walton Lumber Company and H & R Block. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and taught Bible Studies. He was an avid bowler, card shark, connoisseur of local restaurants, and never turned down a conversation on any topic. Every day he learned something new. He loved old movies, music from classical to bluegrass. He read anything from Asimov to Voltair. As a World War II historian he read and watched everything he could find on the Second World War.
He is survived by his daughter, Wanda Wallace and her husband Gerald; son, Howard Lewis; grandchildren, Steven Wallace and his wife Michelle, Jay Wallace and his wife Heather, Brian Wallace and his wife Erin and Roni Bales and her husband Rod; seven great-grandchildren; brother, John Lewis; and multiple nieces and nephews. His life and personality have affected many and he will be missed.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington by Rev. Mike Williams of Fellowship Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
