Rev. William Reid Dalton III

Rev. William Reid Dalton III passed away unexpectedly on July 19, 2020. He was born on December 1, 1953 in Burlington NC. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Turner Dalton; his daughter Jane Dalton McCarthy, her husband Sean and sons Rory and Owen; his daughter Margaret Dalton Sebren and her husband David; and his daughter Sarah Dalton and her fiancé David Arrington.  He was preceded in death by his parents William Reid Dalton Jr. and Ursula Reinhardt Dalton.

Reid was raised in Burlington and graduated from Williams High School in 1971.  A lawyer and Presbyterian minister, Reid was a graduate of The University of North Carolina Law School in Chapel Hill, NC and Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA.  He was a proud Tar Heel and enjoyed cheering on UNC during basketball and football seasons.

As a Presbyterian Minister, Reid served as pastor of the congregations of Green Ridge Presbyterian Church in Roanoke VA, Laurens Presbyterian Church in Laurens NY, Otego Presbyterian Church in Otego NY, and Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Ruffin NC.  He continued to serve as a local minister on call until his death

A member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Reid served as a Ruling Elder. He also served as a Sunday school teacher and was active in choir and student tutoring. Reid taught the weekly bible study at Cedar Ridge Retirement Home for the past 5 years.

Reid has been a staple in community and professional theater since 1998.  In addition to acting on stage he also provided audio-description for the visually impaired through Arts Access, Inc.

Reid was well known for his intellect, talent, faith and charitability.  As a husband, father, grandpapa and friend, he was cherished by all and will be forever in their hearts.
