William Fenton Covington

Mr. William F. “Bill” Covington, 94, of Mebane, passed away at his residence on Saturday, March 21, 2020, following a brief illness.

A native of Alamance County, he was husband of the late Nancy Pickard Covington and son of the late Charles Dewey Covington and Marian Fenton Covington. Bill was a member of Hawfields Presbyterian Church and during the years served as deacon, elder, Sunday School teacher, worked with the youth and was on the board of Hawfields Child Care. He was a dairy farmer for over 70 years in the Hawfields Community. He served on the Board of Directors for Alamance National Bank in Graham, Southern States Co-op in Richmond, VA, Farm Credit of Graham and Columbia, SC. He served on The Board of Directors of Farm Bureau in Graham as well as the Dairy Committee at Farm Bureau in Raleigh. He was on the Dairy Committee at NC State University in Raleigh and the board at Southeast United Dairy Industry Association, Inc.

Surviving are two daughters, Jeanie Kernodle and husband Max and Kathy Lee and husband Ricky, both of Mebane; a son, Fenton Covington and wife Eva of Mebane; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha Lee Covington of Mebane; and a brother, Bennie M. Covington and wife Patsy of Mebane. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Mayberry; and three brothers, Jim Covington, Neel Covington and Charles Dewey Covington, Jr.

Private services will be held at Hawfields Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
