Obituary

Willard L. White, 96, passed away September 15, 2020 at AuthoraCare Hospice in Burlington after several weeks of failing health. He was born in Arkansas to the late Thomas and Frances White and moved with his family to California when he was 13. Mr. White was a United States Marine Corps veteran and served in the South Pacific theater in WWII during the Kwajalein, Guam, Majuro Atoll, and Iwo Jima operations. Following the war, he graduated from San Jose State University and began his career in electrical engineering working as an in-country civilian contractor with Philco Ford during the Korean War. He retired from AT&T Federal Systems in 1989 after a successful career with the company working on the Nike series of guided missiles. He enjoyed traveling throughout the US and camping with his family in many National Parks. He was an exceptional person, family man, had a very generous nature, a great sense of humor, and was extremely wise. He will truly be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.

Willard was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Constance and his siblings, Ruby, Rita, Thomas, and Wanda. Mr. White is survived by his children, Marvana (Bill) and Brent White Sr. (Renee), grandchildren Brent White Jr. and Dawn (Edward) and her children Alex and Joseph, along with several special nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to Renee White who managed her father-in-law’s care. Mr. White was very appreciative of all the providers and people who were so very kind and helpful to him: Alamance Wound Healing Center, Encompass Home Health, AuthoraCare Hospice Home and Facility nurses (special thanks to Stacie Chester), Dr. Steven Klein (special thanks to Laurie). Blakey Hall Assisted Living (special thanks to Ronnie and Melissa), and many others. Mr. White had many friends at Blakey Hall, he loved them all and his favorite buddy was “Jack” the donkey.

The family will hold a private ceremony with Rich and Thompson coordinating the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to AuthoraCare Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
