Wesley Burgess Reynolds

Wesley Burgess Reynolds, Sr., age 81, of Burlington, North Carolina, passed away Monday, February 4, 2019 at The Hospice Home of Alamance-Caswell surrounded by family and friends.

Wes was born in Manchester, Connecticut, on Sunday, December 12, 1937 to the late Dr. Ferris E. and Ann Buntin Reynolds. His family moved to Elon when he was 8 years old. Growing up in Elon, Wes became a “Southerner” and an avid fan of Elon University sports. But, he was never a fan of Southern slang, always insisting that his children and grandchildren speak correct English, and he continued to root for his beloved New York Yankees.

Wes graduated from Elon College in 1959 with a degree in History and soon joined the staff of Carolina Biological Supply Company. While at CBS, Wes established the first “Data Processing” department, becoming Vice President of Management Information Systems and later Vice President of Services. Wes formally retired in 2003 after 43 years of service to the company. However, he remained at the company in the capacity of President of Wolfe Sales Corporation, a division of Carolina Biological, until his death. He also has been a long-time member of the Elon Community Church.

Wes is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Betty Franks Reynolds; his daughter, Gail Reynolds; his son, Wesley Reynolds, Jr.; his sister, Carol Reynolds Glennon; sister-in-law, Clara Ellis Reynolds; four grandchildren, Andrew Johnson, Robert Johnson, Nicholas Reynolds, and Charlotte Reynolds; and many nieces and nephews. His parents, brother, Bradford Jesse Reynolds, and brother-in-law, John Thomas Glennon preceded him in death.

Among the many joys of Wes’ life, his years playing softball with the Carolina Biological company team stand out as a time of friendship, leadership, and competition. The team participated in local and state slow-pitch tournaments, bringing their families and fans along for the fun and achieving top results wherever they went. Wes played third base and outfield. Wes also cherished spending time with his many friends, co-workers and family.

A memorial service will be held at Elon Community Church on Saturday February 9, 2019 at 1:00 PM., the Reverend Randy Orwig presiding. The family will receive guests in the Community Life Center at the church immediately following the service.
