Virginia Dare Gilmore Andrews, 94, passed away April 6, 2018 at White Oak Manor, Burlington, NC.
A native of Chapel Hill, NC, Mrs. Andrews was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Harry Dennis Andrews. They worked side by side for 44 years as owners and operators of Colonial Hardware on East Elm Street in Graham.
Prior to moving to Graham in early 1959, Mrs. Andrews was employed as personal assistant to noted North Carolina playwright Paul Green. She and Mr. Andrews were devoted members of Carrboro Baptist Church.
As a long-time business woman in downtown Graham, Mrs. Andrews was active in the American Business Women’s Association and served as president of the North Carolina Chapter of the ABWA. She and Mr. Andrews were members for many years of the First Baptist Church of Graham. At the time of her death, she was a member of New Covenant Fellowship Church in Graham.
Mrs. Andrews was the only child of the late Gurney Gilmore and Mattie Keck Gilmore. She is survived by sons, Dennis Gilmore Andrews and wife Janet Rhyne Andrews of Graham and Paul McRae Andrews of Archdale, NC; grandson, Neal McRae Andrews and wife Melissa of Sarasota, Florida; one great-granddaughter, Presleigh Andrews-McBride of Mebane and special nurse and friend, Vanessa Harris of Burlington.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of White Oak Manor for their care and support over the last eight years.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham with Pastor David Neff officiating.
