Obituary

Doris Foster Norwood, 95, died on Thursday, July 2, 2020. She passed away in her home surrounded by loved ones and her caregiver.


Mrs. Norwood was a native of Caswell County and was the wife of Victor E. (Pete) Norwood whom she married on February 24, 1952. She met her husband when he was on his first job with the NC State Highway Patrol in Yanceyville. They lived in Yanceyville, Sanford and Burlington. Mr. Norwood died in August 2017.


She was a member of First Baptist Church in Graham where she also worked as secretary from 1962 - 1983. She served as director of the Adult II Department and as a Sunday School Teacher. She also served as mission support chair for the Women’s Missionary Union and was member of many prayer groups. Mrs. Norwood was a charter member and served as President of the Graham Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association. She was a member for over 50 years and was chair of many of the organization’s committees. She was a member of the local and state North Carolina Highway Patrol Auxiliary.


In addition to her husband, Mrs. Norwood was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Osber and Isabella Poteat Foster. Mrs. Norwood is survived by a sister, Betsy Foster Webster of Winter Garden, FL. and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her very much.


She was also preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters-in-law, James E. Foster (Kay Zimmerman), Richard Malloy Foster (Mabel Guthrie – living), Lindsay Tilden Foster (Barbara Hedrick – deceased, Barbara “Cookie” Daniel – living), Marion Duke Foster (Maxine Bush - living), one sister and two brothers-in-law, Lillie Ann Foster Vernon (Fred) and Bob Webster.
Mrs. Norwood was a life-long servant of her Lord Jesus. She never hesitated to share her testimony with anyone she met. She was a second mother and spiritual mentor to her many nieces and nephews. She was a loyal friend and a faithful church member. She said, “If you don’t have friends anywhere, you will find them at church.” She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her.


The family wishes to express appreciation to Faye Parker, her friend and caregiver for 2 years and to Tony and Dana Stewart, her wonderful neighbors.


The family will receive friends Sunday, July 5, 2020 from 2:00 – 3:00 PM at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham. Other times they will be at the home.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday in the Rich and Thompson Chapel. Reverend Chris Howe will officiate. Burial will follow in Graham Memorial Park.
