Violet Jones Ward Sutton

Violet J. Sutton went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family who loved her dearly.

She was born in Burlington, NC to the late Henry Washington Jones and Lillie Turner Jones. She was blessed with two families from her late husbands, Kirby Ward and Onnie B. Sutton, Jr.

She was retired from AT&T, formerly known as Western Electric after 37 years of service. She was a member of Lighthouse Bible Church. Someone once said Violet’s middle name should have been “Go”; she was always ready for a road trip and had traveled many miles. She loved gardening and her flowers. She also enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and always welcomed company in her home. She will be truly missed by many.

Violet is survived by four daughters, Judy Ward Page, Belinda Ward Lefler, Rebecca Sutton Pickard and husband Willie and Mary Sutton Wilson and husband Duane; stepson, Randy Sutton; stepdaughters, Laverne Sutton Apple and husband Jerry and Vickie Sutton Poe and husband Robert; 18 grandchildren, Ashley Page Adams and husband David, Elizabeth Page Boggs, Tracy Oakley Jones, Toni Oakley, Briana Lefler Orr and husband Kevin, William Lefler, John Luke Pickard, Allie Pickard, Clay Pickard, Hayden Pickard, Courtney Wilson, Nicholas Wilson, Stacey Apple Egerter and husband Bob, Justin Poe, Mike Sutton, Randy Sutton, Jr., Jonathan Sutton and wife Alicia and Daniel Sutton; 17 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, James “Claborne” Jones.

The funeral service will be conducted at Lighthouse Bible Church on Sunday, October 11, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 1:45 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. Friends and family can visit the home at 1103 N. Mebane Street, Burlington at other times.
