Vernon Miles Byrd,  Sr.

     Vernon Miles Byrd, Sr., 82, of Mebane,  passed away on Thursday, 7/23/2020 after several months of failing health.

     A native of Orange County,  he was the son of the late Albert Stedman Byrd and Bessie Smith Byrd.  He was married for over 60 years to Lucille Terry Layne Byrd,  who survives.  He retired from Burlington Industries after 31 years of service.

     In addition to his wife Lucille,  Vernon is survived by a daughter, Jackie Byrd Elmore (Darrell Cook);  sons,  Vernon “Bo” Byrd, Jr. and Ronnie Byrd and his wife Vicki. Also surviving are granddaughters, Jordan Elmore and Britney Owen; a brother,  Bobby Byrd and his loving dog,  Missy.   In addition to his parents,  Vernon was also preceded in death by a sister,  Marie Byrd and a brother,  Joe Byrd, Sr.

     A celebration of Vernon’s life will be held at Carr United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday 8/1/2020. 

--- At the age of 82,  God saw you getting tired,  a cure was not to be..  So God put his arms around you and whispered,  “Come with me.”  With tearful eyes,  we watched you pass away and even though we loved you,  we could not make you stay.  A loving heart stopped beating,  your working hands now at rest.  God broke our hearts to prove HE only takes the best…

     Ronnie and Vicki Byrd played a large part in taking care of Vernon during the lengthy decline of his health.  On behalf of your family,  thank you for all the assistance you gave Daddy and Momma.
