Mr. Thomas G. “Mr. T” Starks, 98, of Burlington passed away at White Oak Manor on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 10:26 a.m.
Mr. Starks was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Prior to his Army service, Mr. Starks was a boxer, and fought the legendary Sugar Ray Robinson in 1937. He retired as a construction foreman from the asphalt and paving industry.
Born in Durham County, he was the son of Dorcey Starks and Bessie Raynar Starks, both deceased. Mr. Starks grew up and lived in Cleveland, OH, until returning to North Carolina in 1980 and settling in Burlington.
Survivors include a daughter, Thomasine Gillom of Cleveland, OH; five grandchildren, Michelle, Lisa, William, Terry and Brittany; and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and nephew, Michael Debow. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Starks and sister, Jane DeBow.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Monday, November 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. by Brother Dennis Richmond with the family receiving friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Military graveside rites will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
