Obituary

Thomas ‘Tom’ Lee Justus was born on Nov 25th, 1957 in Queens, NY and died suddenly Dec 2nd, 2018 at his home in Burlington, NC. He was the oldest child and only son of Lee Justus and Penelope Yedell Justus. Despite living in NY, VA, Colorado, and Washington he considered himself a North Carolinian and believed in the superiority of Eastern NC BBQ. He was proud of becoming an Eagle Scout at 15 and his membership in the Order of the Arrow. Tom was a skilled professional metal artist, specializing in reproduction medieval armor for reenactors and collectors. He was a passionate medieval and American Civil War reenactor. Tom was known as a storyteller and musician who could play any instrument that he held in his hands. He enjoyed good company, games, and the companionship of his dogs. Glassblowing and fishing were among his many interests. Tom was an enthusiastic scholar of history and a life-long learner. He was a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend. Tom is survived by his wife of 32 years, Tracy Sanders Justus; his mother Penelope Robinson and her husband Don Robinson; his sisters Bonnie J. Burton and her husband Jonathan Burton; and Laura J. Sam and her husband Andrew Sam. He is preceded in death by his father Lee Justus and his sister LouAnne von Seidler.
There will be a private family gathering of remembrance in the coming days, and a celebration of life with family and friends in the coming year.
