Mr. Thomas Marion Hargrove, 84, formerly of Graham, NC passed away at Bon Secours Community Hospice House in North Chesterfield, VA on Friday, August 31, 2018.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Rebecca C. Hargrove, who survives and the son of Herman Grey Hargrove and Blanche Johnson Hargrove, both deceased.
Mr. Hargrove received his master’s degree in civil engineering at N. C. State University where he was a pitcher for the N. C. State Varsity Baseball Team for four years. He was employed in the telecommunications industry for 32 years. He was past president of the Eli Whitney Ruritan Club and Chairman of the local Saxapahaw-Eli Whitney Schools for five years. Tom possessed a strong faith and was a lifetime member of Concord United Methodist Church. There, he served as superintendent of the construction of the sanctuary built in 1961.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two daughters, René Lanigan and husband John and Teresa Hargrove; son, Thomas Hargrove, Jr. and wife Deborah; five grandchildren, Bridget Leitch and husband Jason, John Lanigan, Jr., Russell Lanigan and wife Dawn, Matthew Lanigan and Melanie Hargrove; two great grandchildren, Stryder Flynn Lanigan and Henry Thomas Leitch; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine Russell Hargrove and brother, Robert “Bob” Hargrove.
The funeral service will be conducted at Concord United Methodist Church on Monday, September 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. David King with the family receiving friends from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
