Mr. Thomas Gary Woody, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, June 22, 2020 with his beloved Shelby Jean by his side.
A native of Alamance County, he was born July 28, 1949. He retired from UNC at Chapel Hill where he proudly helped maintain the grounds for UNC Athletics, in particular for UNC Kenan Football Stadium. Tommy loved working for UNC at Chapel Hill and was an avid Tar Heel fan.
Tommy was a true cowboy. Not only did he show horses, but he also trained horses and served as a judge at horse shows.
Survivors include his longtime love, Shelby Jean Bush; daughter, Chandra Haswell and husband Jeff of Raleigh; sister, Judy Woody Barrett and husband Autry; step daughter, Kimberly Staton and husband Greg; step son, Todd Bush and wife Cindy; nine grandchildren, Chloe, Landon, Briana, Summer, Ethan, Tyler, Connor, Garrett and Olivia; three great grandchildren; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Dace Woody and Virginia McPherson Woody; son, Gary Woody; and brother, Larry Woody.
Mr. Woody may be viewed at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Thursday, June 25, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
Due to public health and safety concerns regarding the Covid-19 virus, the family will hold a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church Cemetery on Friday, June 26, 2020. They ask that you follow social distancing protocol and bring a chair so you can attend the funeral service comfortably. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
