Susan Jane Fitch

Susan Jane Smith Fitch, 72, of Burlington passed away peacefully at AuthoraCare Hospice Home on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 following a year of declining health.  Her unyielding zest for life will be cherished forever. 
 
Susan was raised in Burlington and was the wife of 49 years to her childhood sweetheart, Michael Alan “Mike” Fitch, who survives and the only child of William Cooper Smith and Ruth Briggs Smith, both deceased. 
 
Susan was a graduate of Walter Williams High School and Methodist College, with a major in Sociology and minor in Art.  She was formerly employed at the Clerk of Superior Court for Alamance County before becoming a stay-at-home mom.  Susan later returned to work and retired from Trust Company of the South in client relations.  Susan was a wife, mother, cousin, and friend who loved her family and friends dearly. She had an infectious smile, a warm and giving heart, and was beautiful inside and out. Susan loved animals and to travel especially to the beach and Florida. She engaged everyone in conversations and never met a stranger. 
 
In addition to her husband Mike, survivors include a daughter, Hannah Claire Fitch Allen and husband Brad Allen; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her. 
 
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
 
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the genuine kindness extended to Susan by the staff at Twin Lakes Community, Moses Cone ICU, and AuthoraCare Hospice.
