Sommer Hunsucker Helm

Sommer Hunsucker Helm passed away on Friday September 30th after a prolonged battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was born on October 22, 1968 in Albemarle, NC.

Sommer is survived by her daughter, Abby Helm of Rock Hill SC; her father, David Hunsucker and his wife Anne of Burlington NC; her brother, Grey Hunsucker of Talbott TN; her nephew, Tyler Hunsucker, his wife Cassidy and their daughter Hudson of Knoxville TN; her niece, Carlye Hunsucker and her nephew, Isaac Hunsucker both of Nashville TN; her long-term care givers Lena Gettys of Conway SC and Vida Coffee of Greensboro NC. Sommer was proceeded in death by her mother Judy Hudson of Albemarle NC; her paternal grandparents Bleachmond and Margaret Hunsucker of Albemarle NC and her maternal grandparents Krone Mitchell (Wendy) and Cannie Bell Hudson of Albemarle NC.

Sommer squeezed every drop out of life and would light up a room with just her smile. She was known for her sense of humor, her talkative ways, and zest for life. Sommer grew up in Burlington, NC. She is a proud East Carolina University and Williams High School alumna. She created a loving community everywhere she went. She fought a 25-year battle with a positive attitude all the way. She was strong, she was loving, she was sassy and she was a fighter.

Sommer made an impact in the lives of other, to continue that impact a foundation in Sommer’s name “The Sommer Hunsucker Foundation” is being set-up to support needs of Mothers with Multiple Sclerosis in Alamance County and the surrounding area. There will be a memorial service at St. Marks Church,  1230 St. Marks Church Road, Burlington NC at 3:00 pm Sunday October 9th. The family will receive friends after the service in The Atrium of St. Marks Church.
