Shirley Jane Poe Melancon, 76, of Burlington passed away at Alamance Health Care Center on Sunday, October 6, 2019.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of James B. Melancon, who survives and daughter of Frank Taylor Poe and Etrola Curl Poe, both deceased. She was a member of Open Bible Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two brothers, Lewis Poe and Walter Poe and six sisters, Martha Ann Graham, Mildred Simpson, Mary Lou Reeves, Carolyn Vickers, Linda Keck and Brenda Vickrey. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Taylor Poe, Jr. and James Clarence Poe;
one sister, Ruth Poe Pike; and three half-sisters, Fannie Lea Wilson, Lula Mae Capps, and Elizabeth P. Cates.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. by Pastor Steve Pruitt with the family receiving friends from 2:30 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
