Obituary

On the morning of July 12th, while on vacation with his family on the Outer Banks, Shawn Junus Houston, at age 37, passed away suddenly after suffering a heart attack. He leaves behind his beloved family, wife Anne Drake Houston, daughters Millie (6) and Mary Etta (1) and their highly anticipated son due in December.

Shawn was born in Hickory, NC on September 23, 1980 to parents Sally Bowman Houston and Floyd Houston. He graduated from Bunker Hill High School in Conover and attended Guilford Tech. Shawn was employed as Corporate Vice-President and Service Manager of Greensboro Trailer Sales & Service, Inc.

Shawn had a talent for wood-working and restoring old Chevy trucks. He enjoyed camping and fishing in the mountains and panning for gold in the streams of the piedmont. He prided himself on being able to fix anything, drive anything or build anything.

Once he became a father his dedication turned to being the best daddy and husband possible, taking part in every activity, and teaching his daughters how to enjoy the outdoors. He was a member of New Life at Hocutt Church and relished the comradery of the men’s group bible study and their service to the community.

His friends describe him as a loyal and passionate buddy who would drop whatever he was doing to help a friend. He was a fun-loving guy who could make anybody’s day brighter. All who knew him, knew him to be a good, good man.

In addition to his wife, children and parents, Shawn is survived by his siblings: Johnny (Kristine) of Clermont, GA, Reggie (Teresa) of Statesville, April Brooks (Mike) of Conover, Heather Sellers (Brandon) of Lincolnton and Joseph of Conover and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. Additionally, he leaves behind his in-laws, Nancy Drake of Burlington, David Drake of Lexington and Susan and Wes Sellew of Charleston, SC. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Allen and Christine Stafford Houston, maternal grandparents Garland and Vertie Bowman Bowman, brother Skylar and nephews Cole and Jesse Houston.
