Obituary

Ruth Coble Haney

Ruth Coble Haney, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020,  at the Hospice Home in Burlington.

Born in southern Alamance County, she was the daughter of Tash E. Coble and Vennie Farrell Coble, deceased.

She spent her younger years working, helping to support her family with 4 sisters and 2 brothers.  She married Thomas Melvin Haney in 1947 as they met right after World War II where he served in the Navy.

After 2 daughters were born, she was a stay at home mom who volunteered at the elementary schools where they attended and supported her husband Melvin as he worked at Burlington Industries and taught automotive classes at Alamance Community College.  She then worked as a Teaching Assistant at Fisher Street and Andrews Elementary until her retirement.   She loved and supported her family and always encouraged the best in her daughters.  Nothing made her happier than her grandchildren and staying busy with them.

Beyond her family and friends, her  love has been Swepsonville United Methodist Church and the people there.  She served as lifelong member, Sunday School teacher, member of the United Methodist Women, and president of the UMW for 25 years.

Her passion for volunteering led her to the Hospice Flea Market of Alamance Caswell where she served for 18 years with her husband, managing the toy department, cleaning the donated toys and arranging them to prepare for their new owners.  She loved working the market, being with the volunteers, and knowing that funds were being raised for the Hospice League of Alamance/Caswell.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Debbie Haney, Amy Haney Vaughn and her husband, David; grandchildren Chris Vaughn and his wife, Becca, and Stephanie Vaughn and her fiance’ Evan Keith; great-grandchildren Jackson Vaughn and Maddox Vaughn.

A  graveside  service is planned for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 30th, 2020   at Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington. Officiating will be the Rev.
