Obituary

     Russell Read Wilson, age 78, died peacefully at home May 18, 2019. Russell had been a resident of Burlington for over 50 years and served in numerous community and civic organizations. Russell is predeceased by his beloved wife, Rosella Rogers Wilson (2015), brother Steven Randolph Wilson (1990), and sister Amy Wilson Campbell (2014). He is survived by his children: Mary Kathryn Wilson of Grand Cayman, Russell Stephen Wilson (Kim) of Clovis, CA, Taylor Lynn Wilson (Nancy), and James Brett Wilson of Burlington, along with 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and his sister Rev. Jo Clare Wilson (Nancy) of Hendersonville, NC.
     Russell attended Transylvania University and the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and a member of the baseball team.
     As a dedicated member in the Burlington community, Russell served in numerous civic organizations and for 15 years was a Trustee on the Alamance Community College. He gave tirelessly of his time to many charitable efforts, including the YMCA Board of Directors, The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Alamance County and the Board of Visitors at Elon University. In 2013 Russell was awarded the Duke Energy Citizenship and Service Award given in recognition of persons who make a difference by contributing their time and talents to influence the lives of others positively. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder and participating in their longtime partnership in Moyobomba, Peru, providing building aid, medical care and assistance in constructing a school.
     Settling in Burlington in 1969, Russell joined Jeffries Hosiery. He later established Volunteer Hosiery before founding Pro Feet Socks Inc. (now known as Wilson Brown Socks Co.), where he was President and CEO for 33 years. Russell was an avid Tarheel and Elon sports fan, an avid golfer, and world traveler visiting 6 of the 7 continents. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
     A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Burlington on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow.
     In lieu of flowers the family wishes for contributions to given to The Salvation Army Girls and Boys Club of Alamance County.
