Roland “Wayne” Bozeman
Roland “Wayne” Bozeman, 72, of Burlington passed away on June 1st, 2021.
Wayne is survived by his wife Ibby of the home; daughters Amy Lamond (Scott) of Raleigh and Lauren Brandenburg (Shawn) of Greenville; grandchildren Kullan and Xander Lamond and Kaylan and Emmy Brandenburg; sister Wanda Parrish (Thomas) of Oak Island; nieces Crystal Smith (Marcus) of Raleigh and daughter Kinsley and Sarah Parrish and daughter Lilah of Boiling Springs Lake. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Roland and Mary Milliken Bozeman of Durham.
Wayne was born in Durham on February 12th, 1949. He graduated from Durham High School where he lettered in football, basketball, baseball, and track. After high school, Wayne attended Appalachian State University and received a Bachelor of Science. He also attended UNCG and attained his Masters of Education and Specialist in Education degrees.
Wayne began his education career at Elon Middle School teaching Science in the early 70’s. After teaching and coaching for many years, he became the Assistant Principal at Western Middle School under the tutelage of Wilma Parrish. When Mrs. Parrish retired in 1989, Wayne became the Principal of Western Middle School. He remained in that position for 6 years until he was moved to EM Holt Elementary School in the same capacity. While he enjoyed his time at EM Holt, his heart remained in the Western Zone. When the Principal job opened at Western Alamance High School in 1996, he jumped at the chance and took the position. He retired from Western Alamance in the early 2000s.
Wayne was a devoted husband to Ibby, father to Amy and Lauren, and grandfather to Kaylan, Kullan, Emmy, and Xander. He enjoyed going to any high school ballgame, vacationing at Ocean Isle Beach with his family, being on the Board of the NCAE Division of Principals and Administrators, umpiring local baseball games, and spending time with friends he had known for 40+ years. Wayne was also a spiritual man, who along with Ibby, were members of Macedonia Lutheran Church. He served as an usher and worked on various projects for the church community including the annual Brunswick Stew sale. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Miller and his staff for the care they gave Wayne throughout the last 15 years. They would also like to thank the 7800 unit of Duke University Hospital for the care and compassion they gave Wayne during his brief illness.
Visitation will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home on Wednesday June 9th from 4 – 7. The funeral will be held at Macedonia Lutheran Church on Thursday June 10th at 2 pm.
