Roger H. Abke

Roger H. Abke, age 82, of Elon, NC passed away on Tuesday February 5th, 2019 comforted by family and devoted caregiver Sherry Brooks. He was born on May 9th, 1936 in Portage, Ohio to Henry and Edith (Hohls) Abke.

Roger graduated from Capital University where he was a member of the Chapel Choir, the highlight of which was performing at Carnegie Hall. He served in the Army spending 2 years in Korea. He was an avid sports fan especially the OSU Buckeyes and UNC Tarheels. He retired from AT&T as a Purchasing Manager. He loved to travel, spending winters in Florida, playing golf and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jewell Perry, brothers, Donald, Herman, Richard, David and Kenneth, sisters, Lois and Ruth, and step-sons Jimmy and Jeff Moser.

Survived by children Cyndee (Tom) Duhon, Brenda Abke, Jeffery (Mariellen) Abke, Grandchildren Jonathan (Jamie) Hammer, David Hammer, Laura Hammer, step grandchildren Nicole (Todd) Stumpf, Andrew (Erin) Duhon, great-grandson Wesley Hammer, step great-grandchildren, Tanner Stumpf, Teddy, George and Rose Duhon. 

Brother-in-law Charlie Copelan, step children Chuck Moser (Tina), Shirley Moser, Pat Moser and step-grandchildren Taylor and Annie Moser, Christopher Moser (Becky) and Kristy Hardy (Matt) and step-great-grandchildren, Jac  and Charley Carwell, Emma and Jack and Izzy Moser, and Josh, Linda Gail, and Michelle Hardy, and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and family at Rich and Thompson in Burlington immediately prior to the service,  from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, 2/10/2019.

Services will be at 2:00 pm,  on Sunday,  2/10/2019 at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington, NC.   Military graveside rites will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
