Richard Shelton Miles Jr.

Richard Shelton Miles, Jr., of 219 Rolling Road, Burlington, NC died on Wednesday, August 21st, 2019.

A talented musician, a skilled carpenter, builder of homes and genuine “Mr. Fix It”.

Rich got his start in music at a young age and became an excellent guitarist with an exceptional ear for music. He enjoyed playing in bands with boy hood friends, moving from house to house in his home town enjoying jam sessions and artistic fellowship. Later, as a musician, he travelled the eastern seaboard from Virginia to Alabama playing for college campuses and clubs that earned his bands top billing along the way.

A graduate of Williams High School, Rich also completed electrical course work at Alamance Community College, held a contractor’s license and attended Elon University.

A builder of homes, Rich always was credited for adding special features to make the design of the home unique to the owner’s style. Rich’s love for building also expanded from basic cabinetry to the design and creation of building camels for live Nativity scenes.

As a Mr. Fix it, he was taking apart and repairing household tools and even repaired and rebuilt his father’s lawnmower at the age of 8.

In addition to all of his achievements, Rich was a tender, thoughtful, extremely devoted and loving friend who enjoyed the simple pleasures of his cats, hearth and home.

Survivors include his dearly beloved, Martha Ann Lipsky, of the home, brother, John Wilson Miles, and three first cousins: Mrs. Pattie Foster Black and husband, Steve, Mrs. Susan Foster Kearney and husband, Keith (of Snow Hill, NC), and Mrs. Gail Shoffner Cobb and husband, Paul. He was predeceased by his parents, Shelton Miles and Merle Lindsey Miles.

The family is being assisted by Rich & Thompson Funeral Home of Burlington, NC.

The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life event on Friday, September 6th from 5:30pm – 8pm at the Clubhouse at the Lake Mackintosh Marina, 2704 Huffman Mill Road, Burlington, NC 27215.
