March 15, 1943 ~ March 14, 2018 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Obituary

Becky Rice, 74, of North Myrtle Beach, SC passed away at home on March 14, 2018, hours shy of her 75th Birthday, after a long, courageous battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS).

A native of Graham, NC, she was the wife of Bill Rice and the late John Barry Meacham. She was the daughter of Eldon Taylor and Florence Stout Watkins.  She was the loving mother of one son, Mitch Meacham and wife Selena of Burlington NC and one daughter, Jodi Meacham Beers and husband Chuck of Burlington, NC. She is also survived by one brother, Eldon Bradley Taylor, Jr. of Titusville, FL; two sisters, Felicia Richardson and husband John of Titusville, FL, and Linda Sue Duncan of Reidsville, NC; four grandchildren, Ashley Meacham of Burlington, NC, Leslie Meacham of Raleigh, NC, Nikki Mullins and Quade Mullins of Burlington, NC.

Becky was a proud 1961 graduate of the first graduating class of Southern Alamance High School. In 1996, she retired as an Assistant Teacher and relocated to North Myrtle Beach, SC with her husband Bill.

Becky was very active in the Shag Community and participated in several organizations where she was the recipient of many awards: Pug Wallace Intergalactic Award, SOS Outstanding Contribution Award, Ocean Drive Living Legends, Virginia Beach National Living Legends, OD Shag Club Ways & Means Committee, SOS Fun Monday Enhancement Committee, OD Boys in the Band, “Queen Mother” of Carolina Golden Girls.

Becky will be remembered as a one-of-a-kind woman, fantastically funny and wholeheartedly honest. She loved her family and friends, and her beloved Bichon Bee-Gee. Becky was the life of the party. Her “tell it like it is” personality and big heart made each person she met feel like they had known her for years. Throughout her battle, she never lost her sense of humor, quick wit, and feistiness. She was a lifelong UNC Tarheel fan, “collector” of sunglasses, and had the best one-liners. She lived her life to the fullest, loving and cherishing every moment.

A special thanks to the Head Coach of UNC Women’s Basketball Team, Coach Sylvia Hatchell, who was instrumental towards her treaments at UNC, as well as providing inspiration.  Secondly, to the ladies from RESCARE who provided her and the family with in-home care, and did so in the most respectful, professional, caring, and loving way: Bridgett, Sheila, Alvina, Annie, and Margaret.  Many thanks to all of you for your continuous flow of prayers, cards, phone calls, and words of encouragement throughout Becky’s battle.

A Memorial Service will be held at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home of Graham, NC on March 24th at 2:00PM
