Rachel Brooks Compton

Rachel Brooks Compton, 96, of Edgewood Place at the Village at Brookwood, died Saturday, March 10, 2018 after several months of declining health.

A native of Henderson, NC, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Eugene and Nettie Brooks.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Brenda Buckner Compton of Burlington; two grandchildren, Tracey Terrell (Little Bit) of Raleigh and Angela Le Moigne (Serge) of Pont-Croix, France; five great-grandchildren and a special niece, Sylvia Ann Potts of High Point.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Compton; sons, Robert (Bobby) Compton, and infant son Walter Compton, Jr.; three sisters, Beulah, Gladys and Ovada; and three brothers, Herman, Lester and Wade Brooks.

She will be remembered in many ways, especially for her good cooking (her fried cornbread) and her spunkiness. She was of the Christian faith.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 12, 2018 at Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington from 12:30 until 1:45.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday in Pine Hill Cemetery.
