Patsy Truitt Sharpe, 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother entered the gates of heaven on Friday, October 16, 2020, surrounded by her loved ones.
A native of Glen Raven, Patsy was the wife of Carl Sharpe and the daughter of the late Herman Truitt and Gladys Woodson Truitt. In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by her son David Sharpe.
Patsy or Grannie as she liked to be called by all, retired from Your House Inc. Prior to a life of accounting, Patsy attended NC State University in the mid 1950’s. At that time there were 4,283 men enrolled and only 53 women, Patsy was one of the 53. There she planned to become a veterinarian. Patsy would later change her degree to accounting and graduate from Elon College. In Patsy's own words “ I just could not cut the cat!” Later Patsy and her husband Carl ran the Burlington Saddle Club, Shamrock Riding Stables and finally Double S Stables. Through the years Patsy taught many Alamance County youngsters to ride saddleseat. Teaching horseback riding was a lifelong passion for Patsy. Patsy's love for animals paled to her love for her family with her greatest love being bestowed on her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Patsy is survived by her husband, Carl of the home and daughter, Mary Katherine Smith and her husband Mark of Burlington; two grandchildren, Caroline Hall and her husband Ben, and Benjamin Smith and his wife, Nicole. Three great grandchildren, Benji, Ella Grace, and Garrison; a sister, Susan Schindler and her husband Steve; and a brother Tom Truitt and his wife Judy.
The family would like to thank the trauma doctors, nurses and staff at Moses Cone Medical Center for the excellent care during her stay.
The family will receive friends Wednesday October 21, 2020 from 1:00 until 1:45 PM at Rich and Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington.
A Celebration of a life well lived will follow at 2:00 PM in the Rich and Thompson Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt Pleasant United Methodist Church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Patsy’s favorite charity St Jude’s Children’s Hospital in care of : ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
