Nellie Garner Petty

Nellie Garner Petty, 92, of Mebane, NC passed away suddenly at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro on Thursday, March 21, 2024.

A native of Roxboro, NC, she was the wife of the late Stephen “Buck” Petty and the daughter of Jesse James Garner and Sarah Alice Shields Garner, both deceased. She was employed with Western Electric in the assembly department and later became a homemaker. She enjoyed working in her garden. Nellie was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Mebane where she had a ministry of sending cards and visiting the shut-ins. Nellie was a caregiver to her mom and dad, her brother Bernard, and her husband Buck before their passing.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Petty Martin and husband Stephen of Jamestown and granddaughter, Sabrina Katlin Martin of Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Larry Garner, Lawrence Garner, Leon Garner, Bernard Garner, John Garner, Elbert Garner, and Bill Garner and a sister, Reva Timmerman.

The family will receive friends at Rich & Thompson Funeral Service in Burlington on Friday, March 29, 2024 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be conducted at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Mebane on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Mebane, NC.
