Mr. M. Douglas Long, 91, of Burlington died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 9:04 a.m.

A native of Wake County, he was the husband of Elizabeth “Libby” Long, who survives and the son of Millard Long and Mertie Helen Robertson Long, both deceased. Mr. Long was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge. He was owner and operator of Libby’s Day Care and a charter member of Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include five daughters, Barbara Ann Newcomb (Keith), Rita Showfety (Chris), Carolyn E. Gunn (Steve), Annette Sentner (Peter) and Deede Nichols (Rick); 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Jesse Long (Pat); two sisters, Faye Thompson (George) and Peggy Long; a special friend, Bobbie Burke; and his furry friend, Charlie. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Long and Joyce Long.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. Other times they will be at the residence.
