Donaldine Johnson Pringle

Donaldine Johnson Pringle, 98, passed away on February 12, 2018, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. A native of Glendive, Montana, she was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore John Johnson and Ella Birkland Johnson, and two sisters, Gladys Eugenia “Peggy” McVey and Alice Theodora “Boots” Benson. She was married to the late Dr. J. Ross Pringle, a Greensboro dentist, for 61 years. She attended the University of Montana and UCLA.

She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church, Greensboro and more recently a member of First Presbyterian Church, Burlington. She was a charter member of the Wildwood Garden Club in Greensboro in 1948. She served as president of her club, the Greensboro Council of Garden Clubs and was state president of The Garden Club of North Carolina (1974-75), and president of the Greensboro Council of Flower Show Judges. She was a member of Ikebana International and enjoyed flower arranging, growing flowers in her garden and judging flower shows. She served on the board of Greensboro Beautiful and was chairwoman from 1968-70. She was the recipient of the first Lifetime Achievement Award from Greensboro Beautiful and led in support of many landscape projects in Greensboro. She also served on the board of Greensboro’s Natural Science Center when it was under the leadership of Edward von der Lippe.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Joseph R. Pringle, Jr. and his wife Patsy; grandson, Ross Newlin Pringle and his wife Sarah Budischak; and great-granddaughter, Harriet Pringle; seven nieces; and three nephews.

Mrs. Pringle moved to Twin Lakes Community in 1999, first in Assisted Living with her husband and more recently at Coble Health Care. The family gratefully acknowledges the wonderful care she received from the staff of both facilities.

A service of witness to the resurrection will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Burlington on Friday, February 16, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 15, 2018 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Rich & Thompson Funeral Service, Burlington. A private burial will be held at New Garden Friends Cemetery, Greensboro, NC.
