Michael Vernon Spence

Michael Vernon Spence, age 78, of Graham, passed away suddenly Sunday morning, June 12th. At the end he was surrounded by family at Moses Cone Hospital, after two days of hospitalization. He was born September 12, 1943 in Norfolk, VA to Mack and Hazel Spence.

Michael was a Christian, having accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He and his wife Barbara attended Bethel Baptist Church.

He loved Oriental, NC where he owned a home for many years. He enjoyed watching sailboats go by his house and loved having his family there relaxing with him. He could be found on his tractor at the family farm in Alamance County or splitting and stacking wood for the winter. Always busy.

Michael served with the US Army and loved his county. He was an avid reader, loved his family, history, antiques and Mercedes Benz.

Michael owned and operated European Accents Ltd in Greensboro. He was a savy Real Estate investor with a hands on approach.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Strader Spence of 49 years, brother, Jerry (Buddy) Spence (Terry), sister Debra Alascio, children April Ross (Eddie), Russ Allen (Sue); eight grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Hazel Spence, daughter Kimberly Dawn Crowder, and granddaughter Jessica Christine Spence.

Visitation will be at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham, Wednesday evening, from 5:00 to 7:00. Funeral services will be held at Bethel Baptist Church, Thursday, at 11:00 AM. Michael will be available for viewing from 10:00 until time for the service.
