Mr. Melvin Douglas Smith, Jr., 58, of Greensboro passed away at his residence on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at 7:18 p.m.
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and a native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Melvin Douglas Smith, Sr. and Michael Lewis Holt, Sr. and Judith Ann Lyon Smith Holt. He was a professor at Guilford College as well as an accomplished writer with many publications to his credit.
Survivors include one son, Jordan Douglas Smith of Raleigh; one granddaughter, Sophia Marie Smith; parents, Michael Lewis Holt, Sr. and Judith Ann Lyon Smith Holt of Burlington; three brothers, Mark Smith and wife Kim of Clifton Park, NY, Tim Smith and wife Monica and Michael Lewis Holt, Jr., all of Burlington; girlfriend, Sarah Troxler; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends following the service. Other times the family will be at the home of his parents, Mike and Judy Holt, 4525 South NC62, Burlington, NC.
