Melba Mae Innes

Melba Drysdale Innes, 90, a resident of the Twin Lakes Community, died on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Coble Creek Healthcare Center at Twin Lakes Community, three days shy of her 91st birthday.

A native of Springfield, Missouri, Melba was the wife of the late Bobby Gene Innes, and daughter of Phillip Ira Drysdale and Sarah Elizabeth Tussey Drysdale, both deceased. She was a graduate of Chaffey High School, Ontario, California, and received a full scholarship to study art at Scripps College, Claremont, CA. While living in Overland Park, KS (1959-1975), she was a member of Prairie Baptist Church, Prairie Village; living in Raleigh, NC (1975-1997) she was a member of Creedmoor Road Baptist Church; and living in Burlington NC (1997-2017) she was a member of First United Methodist Church of Elon.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Melba’s inner spirit was that of an artist. She loved birds, flowers, trees, and depicting the beauty of God’s creation through her talents in oils and watercolors. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, and sewing, as well as a good game of bridge with her friends at Twin Lakes. She was adventuresome and while living in Raleigh NC enjoyed frequent traveling expeditions with the Garner Travelers. She was committed to her church family and Sunday school class, for several years leading their mid-week prayer group. Her beautiful spirit and smile were a blessing to all.

Survivors include her children: Robert (Bob) Innes and wife Barb of Overland Park, KS; Randy Innes and wife Emily of Wake Forest NC; Carol Innes Tucker of Raleigh NC, Tom Innes and wife Elaine of Raleigh, NC; and Scott Innes and wife Maria of Patuxent, Maryland; her brother: Richard Drysdale of LaPuente, California; 11 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and her brother-in-law, Don Innes of Springfield, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Scottie Innes; three brothers, Ralph Drysdale, Charles Drysdale, and Walter Drysdale; and two sisters, Jean Burney and Barbara DeFrance.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at First United Methodist Church of Elon with Rev. Keith Sexton officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 19 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Walnut Grove, Missouri.

Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington is assisting the family. Greenlawn Funeral Home in Springfield, MO is assisting the family with the burial.
