Mrs. Mavis Sharpe Bowland, 97, of 3122 Alamance Road, Burlington, died on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Hospice Home in Burlington.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late Marvin C. Bowland and the daughter of Vida Pyle Sharpe and Lester F. Sharpe, both deceased. She retired from A.O. Smith and was a former member of Union Ridge Church for 50 years where she taught Sunday School for a number of years. Mrs. Bowland later moved her membership to Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church with her son and daughter in law and was a member of the Open Door Sunday School Class. Mavis’s hobby was hard physical work. She loved to spend time in her garden and work in her yard, especially riding her John Deer lawn tractor.
Survivors include her son, Danny Bowland and wife Dona of Burlington; three grandchildren, Ryan McPherson Bowland and wife Heather, Michelle Rowe and husband Ronnie, and Tammy Albright-Coreil; and her great grandchild, Cameron Bowland.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mabel Euliss.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark D. Stephens and Rev. John Woodard, officiating. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:00 to 1:00 PM prior to the service at Phillips Chapel United Methodist Church and on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Mavis’s residence, 3122 Alamance Road, Burlington, NC.
