Obituary

Mrs. Mary Haithcock McPherson, 85, of Burlington passed away at White Oak Manor on Monday, May 11, 2020 at 11:03 a.m.

Mary was born August 1, 1934 in Chatham County, NC. She was the wife of 67 years to the late Ernest Glenn McPherson and the daughter of William Thomas Haithcock and Lina Smith Haithcock, both deceased.

Mrs. McPherson worked in textiles in her early years and was a fulltime homemaker. During mid life, she received her high school GED and Associates Degree in Nursing from Alamance Community College. She worked as a registered nurse at County Hospital, Memorial Hospital, and Alamance Regional Medical Center until retirement. She loved working primarily in the new born infant department.

Mary was an active member at Northside Presbyterian Church for over 50 years where she was affectionately known as Mary Mac. She participated in the Women’s Ministry, kitchen committee, taught Sunday School and VBS, sang in the choir, read through the Bible multiple years and achieved perfect attendance for many years. Her passion was teaching children and taught many neighborhood children in her home through the Child Evangelism ministry.

Mary enjoyed crocheting, rose gardening, cooking, taking family pictures and spoiling her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and was known to enjoy TV soaps. She also loved to collect various types of glassware.

Survivors include her children, Glenda McPherson Martin (Craig Martin-deceased) of Burlington, Clay Thomas McPherson (Vicki) of Elon and Ann McPherson Dobbins (Stephen) of Burlington; grandchildren, James Glenn Cook (Missy), Clay Matthew McPherson and Stephanie Diane Dobbins; and one great-grandchild, Makayla Cook. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Janie Guthrie, Billy Haithcock, Johnny Haithcock and Daisey “Nukey” Page.

In light of the recent restrictions due to the Coronavirus, a private service will be held for the family and a public memorial service will be held at a later date.
