Mary Alice Dixon

Mary Alice Dixon passed away peacefully on May 30, 2023, following a brief illness.

Mary spent many years in the civil service and military traveling and living all over the world. Mary was born in Cleveland, OH, attended St. Joseph’s Academy before joining the USMC and later earned her Bachelor and Master’s degrees. She worked in administration at Marquette University before joining the civil service as a civilian with the US Air Force and transferred to the US Army in Korea where she served as Protocol Officer for the General Staff and Museum Director for the 2ND Infantry Division receiving numerous awards for superior and meritorious service. Returning stateside, she worked for the US Army Department of Military History in Washington, D.C. until retirement.

Mary was preceded in death by her son, Brian John Freese, her mother, Blanche Kofron and her son-in-law, Roderick Warren. She is survived by her husband John Dixon of Mebane, daughters Sheryl Caliguire of Bethlehem, PA, and Jacqueline FitzGerald of Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA, three beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Scott, and Jessica, daughter in law Tracy Dixon and husband Mickey Fanney, grandsons Kiah and Pender Fanney, and brother Clarence Kofron of Kunkletown, PA.

Mary served as Commandant (former) of the Marine Corp League Detachment# 1209 of Burlington, NC and volunteered with numerous charities serving veterans and the community. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, crocheting, and cooking. Mary was a faithful member of the Catholic Church.

Please join her family and friends as we celebrate the life of Mary Alice Dixon on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Graham, NC. Reception will immediately follow the service.
