Mark Graham Johnston

Graham – Mr. Mark Graham Johnston, 55, of Graham, passed away on Saturday, May 11th, after many months of failing health at Hospice Home of Alamance- Caswell. Mark was a lifelong resident of Alamance County and a 28 year resident of Ralph Scott Group Homes, spending most of that time at South Second Street in Mebane, and the past few months at Town Branch Road in Graham. Mark left behind no tangible legacy, but his love for the simple pleasures in life like family gatherings, music and food created a different empire for which His Creator and Savior will be proud. Mark did not lay up for himself treasures on earth but rather laid up treasures in Heaven, where his heart was also. He had the gifts of living in the present and for loving and accepting everyone. He never let his Down’s Syndrome stand in his way, but allowed family and friend to tap into that spirit, and learn to love and accept as well.

            Mark was preceded in death by his beloved paternal grandmother, Donna McBane Johnston of Graham, and beloved maternal grandparents, Oscar and Ruby Miles of Burlington. Surviving family include his parents Dr. Ben and Becky Johnston of Graham; a brother, Miles Johnston and wife Kelly; and nieces, McNeil and Noelle of Graham; a sister, Benanne Johnston Stiens and husband Jerry of Smyrna, NC; nephew 2nd Lt. Carson Steins of Ft. Bragg, NC; aunt, Sarah Graham Johnston of Graham; and numerous loving cousins who grew up with him like brothers and sisters.

            There will be a private burial at Linwood Cemetery in Graham. A Worship Service in celebration of his life and in commemoration of The Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be held at Graham Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 4:00 PM.
