Lovella Mae Taylor Willis

September 4, 1933 ~ January 26, 2023 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Obituary

Lovella Mae Taylor Willis, 89, of Alamance County went Home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and to be reunited with her husband Dr./Rev. Tommy Willis on Thursday January 26.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday February 1, 11:00, at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Brandon Rouse and Rev. Paul Waters officiating. Burial will follow at Graham Memorial Park.

Lovella was born in Guilford County, NC to the late Fred Dillard, Sr. and Mable Mauk Taylor.  She was a devoted servant of her Lord, helpmeet to her husband, mother to her children, and Mawmaw to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Willis was employed as a kindergarten teacher at Andrews Memorial Readiness School.  She was a successful gardener who enjoyed tending to her gardens of flowers and vegetables. A true southern lady, she would not be caught without her hair fixed and a sweater to complete the outfit – even in the garden. She was also a very talented seamstress. Her favorite pastimes and hobbies included studying her Bible, playing scrabble, working puzzles, and painting. Her Christmas collections of nutcrackers and village pieces were admired by all who visited her home. Lovella faithfully attended Andrews Memorial Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Her life was dedicated to serving her Lord and her family, and her constant example of selflessness will be a treasured part of her legacy. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Dr. Tommy Lee Willis; sister Betty; brothers Junior and Bill.

Lovella is survived by her loving children Sandra Loy (Garry) of Raleigh, Rebecca Harris (Richard) of Mebane, Don Willis (Paula) Cape Canaveral, FL, Elaine Fox (Clifton) of Graham, and Jerri’ Wright (Mike) of Graham; 14 grandchildren, Julie, Jeffrey, Marsha, Tommy, Justin, Dylan, Jonathan, Bridget, Caitlin, Ethan, Caleb, Mikaylee, Payton, and Madelyn; 22 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Albert Taylor of High Point.  Also surviving are a host of extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening January 31 at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church from 6:00 to 8:00 and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Andrews Memorial Readiness School, 303 W. Elm Street, Graham, NC 27253.
