Linda (Lynn) Graves Bruner

Linda (Lynn) Graves Bruner, 75, of Burlington, died Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at her residence.

A native of Kiser, West Virginia, Lynn was the daughter of the late Ernest Phares and Imogene Hinkle Phares, who survives.

Lynn was a former bookkeeper and dispatcher for Alamance Garbage.

The family would like for Lynn to be remembered by her generous heart.

Everyone who had a personal relationship with Lynn was touched by her generosity and kindness. She truly loved giving more than receiving. Her acts of kindness are shown by her support of the Graham Elementary School Christmas toy drive for the past two years. By donating boxes full of toboggans, gloves, puzzle books, and other items needed by the children, she hoped to make their Christmas just a little bit merrier. Even during her last week with us she was busy once again wrapping boxes for the kids and her plan was to fill the boxes on Sunday to deliver to the school next week.

Lynn looked forward annually toward wrapping shoe boxes to be shipped to other countries and locally for children to open on Christmas morning – to date she has wrapped and filled over four hundred boxes with love and received so much joy being able to make another’s day a bit brighter – by giving.

She was called upon by her elderly neighbor’s to assist them to and from their medical appointments and she did so with kindness and respect. Lynn was never too busy to show her compassion for others. Lynn was still assisting with her ninety-four year old mother during this time as well.

Her desire to make a difference in the lives of others extended to animals, too. Lynn hand-stitched and sewed blankets for our local animal shelter so the pups could have a soft place to lay and to comfort them in their distress. Yet again - at Christmas not only was she focused on human kind she purchased stuff animals for each dog and purchased several toys for the felines as well for Christmas. She also rescued five kittens with her daughter and grandson and placed them in forever loving homes; along with getting the ferrell mother spayed. Most recently she extended her kindness to a stray kitten that appeared on her deck and once again found a loving home for him as well.

Her concern for people and animals was second only to her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. These acts of kindness from her heart could not have unfolded separate from a relationship from our savior. Even when failing health left her feeling weak, she still found the strength to read her Bible and spend time with the Lord daily. Her girls fondest and most comforting memories in her last days was arriving at her home and seeing their dear mother being in the word of Christ – open Bible in hand.

Lynn is survived by two daughters, Teresa G. Poe, and her husband, Mark, of Burlington and Christa Graves, of Graham; two grandchildren, Brandon Graves and Taylor Poe; three great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Graves, Emily Graves and Lakota Graves; her mother, Imogene Hinkle Phares and a sister, Wendy Lynch.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Harrell.

There will be a graveside service Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Noon in Alamance Memorial Park. Officiating will be Rev. Don Pegg.

She fought a 2 year battle with lung cancer – but God provided the final victory.
