Capt. Larry Tingen

Captain Larry Tingen, 82, of Graham passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at Alamance Regional Medical Center.

A native of Alamance County, he was the loving husband of Kathryn Tingen, who survives and the son of Roy Lee Tingen and Eleanor Pierce Tingen Cobb, both deceased.

Larry retired as the superintendent after 31 years of service with the NC Department of Corrections. After his retirement Larry and his friend Sammy Barnes started the Barnes and Tingen Mowing service. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, hunting, and gardening. Larry also enjoyed time with his family, working on puzzles and playing cards, especially Rook. He enjoyed working with his hands, rentivating houses, and tinkering in his shop. Larry was a former member of Mt. Hermon Methodist Church and later a member of Riverside Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of their home, survivors include his daughter, Lisa Tingen Moore and her husband Edward Moore of Winston-Salem; son, Larry Tingen, Jr and his wife Kelli Kosuda Tingen of Goldsboro; and four grandchildren, Kayla Flynn, Kyle Flynn, Alice Tingen, Peter Tingen. He was preceded in death by four siblings, Robert Tingen, Lula Mae Routh, Thelma Glosson and Ruth Rudd.

A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 25, 2024 at Riverside Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 24, 2024 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham. The family will have a private committal service at Mt. Hermon Methodist cemetery at a later date.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to his caregiver, Celestyne Holt for the wonderful love and care given to Larry.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Riverside Baptist Church or to Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Alamance County, NC.
