Katherine Russ Haney

Katherine Russ Haney, 93, of Elon passed away on March 27th, 2023 following several years of declining health.

Katherine is survived by daughter Ibby Bozeman of Burlington; granddaughters Amy Lamond (Scott) of Wake Forest and Lauren Brandenburg (Shawn) of Greenville; great-grandchildren Kullan and Xander Lamond and Kaylan and Emmy Brandenburg; along with nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her husband Charlie Haney, parents Walter J. and May Roney Russ, sister Sarah Russ Burgess, and son-in-law Wayne Bozeman.

Katherine was born on May 19th, 1929 in Guilford County. She graduated from Gibsonville High School and then attended Elon College. Katherine began working for Western Electric in 1952 and remained with them until her retirement in 1981.

Katherine was a devoted wife to Charlie, mother to Ibby, and grandmother to Amy and Lauren. She enjoyed vacationing with her family at Ocean Isle Beach, traveling the world with Charlie, playing cards with friends, painting knick-knacks and sewing. She also enjoyed working in her yard and shopping, always finding the best deals and sales around. Katherine was also a spiritual woman, who along with Charlie, were members of Friedens Lutheran Church. She was a member of various church committees, including the Altar Guild, and loved to greet on Sundays, never meeting a stranger. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

The family would like to thank Twin Lakes Coble Creek Healthcare and especially the staff of the Piedmont Unit. They gave her wonderful healthcare along with love, kindness, and respect for which her family will be forever grateful.

There will be a Graveside Service on Friday March 31st at 2pm. The service will be held at Friedens Cemetery located at 6001 North Carolina Hwy 61 N, Gibsonville NC 27249. In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to the Cemetery Fund at Friedens Lutheran Church, AuthoraCare Hospice of Burlington or a charity of your choice.
