 Julia Thompson “Julie” McKinney

     Julia Thompson “Julie” McKinney, 69, of Sparta, NC, died Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem. She was born July 30, 1950 in Alamance County. On November 17, 1950, she became the devoted and unconditionally loved and loving daughter of her parents, Julius F. Thompson, Jr. and Bartialette “Barky” Braxton Thompson, both deceased.  Julie was the wife of Barry E. McKinney, of the home.

     She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Graham and attended Sparta Presbyterian Church, both in NC.  Julie lived her faith by example and her Christianity was evident throughout her service in her daily life.   Her professional career life was in medical administration.

    Other than her husband, she is survived by her son, Shannon “Sam” Moore, and his husband, Greg Pretre, of Greensboro and numerous extended family members, some of whom she was as close to as if they were siblings.

    A celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the First Baptist Church of Graham.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 2:45 p.m., prior to the service in the Family Life Center of the church.  A private graveside service for family will be held at Alamance Memorial Park at 1:15 p.m.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina, P.O. Box 14608, Greensboro, NC 27415 and to Allegheny Cares, 25 Womble Street, Sparta, NC 28675.   If someone should insist on sending flowers, please be kind enough to let them be daisies.
