Judy Watkins

Judy Watkins (Shelton) was born on November 20th, 1943 (age 78) to Bill and Grace Shelton of Alamance County. Judy passed on September 21st, 2022 in her home surrounded by family.

Judy married John E. Watkins, on September 12th, 1964. In the next 6 years, the couple was blessed with 6 children. Judy was preceded in death by a son, John Scott Watkins. She is survived by her five children, Lisa Watkins Webster (Garry), Eric Watkins, Kelly Byrd (Hank), Dillard Watkins, Heather Watkins, and a daughter-in-law, Michele Watkins.  Judy is also survived by 15 grandkids; 20+ great grandchildren; and numerous in-laws. Judy has also surrounded herself with countless friends including the WHS 62 Ladies’ Lunch Bunch.

Judy not only devoted her life to those she loved, but she provided diligent laboratory work. When she was not working, she spent her time “yard saleing”, collecting pottery, and couponing at BJs. Judy was always up for an adventure. She completed bus tours around the United States with her mother, flew to the Galapagos Islands with a grandchild, spent time in Hawaii with family, and was always up for a beach trip to Oak Island with the entire Watkins Crew.

Judy was diagnosed with ALS in May of 2021. Throughout the treatment, she has focused on ways to increase awareness and research for others who find their selves diagnosed with this disease. A special thank you is extended to the Neurology Department at UNC Chapel Hill and AuthoraCare of Alamance County for the care she was provided.
