Obituary

Joseph Mark Maietta, 88, passed away on June 27, 2018, in Burlington, NC.  Joseph was born in Meadville, PA and was the tenth of twelve children born to Angelo Maietta and Raephaela Musica Maietta.

Joseph graduated from Meadville High School in 1948.  He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Allegheny College in 1955, and went on to earn his Master’s degree in Education from the State University of New York at Fredonia.  Joseph served in the Navy, and later as a teacher for the Southwestern School District in Jamestown, NY.  He was later appointed as a Tax Assessor in Chautauqua and Onondaga Counties.

Joseph and his wife of 56 years, Loraine Maietta, raised their family in Jamestown and Liverpool, NY, before ultimately settling in Fulton, NY.  Recently, Joseph and Loraine relocated to North Carolina.  Joseph was a talented organ player, a devoted basketball fan, and to the end, enjoyed cooking and appreciated authentic Italian food and fine wine.  He was also a proud grandfather, delighting in the adventures of his young grandson.

Joseph is survived by his beloved wife; brother Anthony “Bing” Maietta of Pennsylvania; daughter Jennifer Maietta of North Carolina; son Christopher Maietta and wife Jenn Laraia of Connecticut; grandson Brendan Maietta of Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews.

The service and burial are private.  The Maietta family thanks the Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell for their compassionate care in Joseph’s final days.  The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in the name of Joseph Maietta to the Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, North Carolina 27215.
