Obituary
Joseph (“Joe”) Robert Grubbs, 60, of Leasburg, NC, returned to his heavenly home on February 4, 2020, after a valiant battle with Type 1 diabetes and its myriad of complications. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Joe was born to the late J. E. & Frances Grubbs, in Burlington, NC, on April 19, 1959. He was immersed in the Christian community that ultimately led to his surrendering to God’s calling on his life in the pulpit. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he first met the love of his life.
Joe was blessed with three awesome children and three fabulous grandchildren. He married Donna Briggs Anderson, on November 24, 1985. Joe helped raise his three children with patience, discipline, and humility. From the very beginning, he dedicated his children to his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, and encouraged them to “Test all things; hold fast what is good,” 1 Thessalonians 5:21.
Joe was a pastor for 20+ years. He was lovingly referred to as “Pastor Joe”. He ardently loved his family of believers at Semora Baptist Church. He was gracious, kind and compassionate and always had time to pray for anyone with a need or a concern. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Creator.
Joe is survived by his wife, Donna; his son, Dr. Joseph Grubbs Jr. and wife, Dr. Gabriela Tomlinson, and granddaughter, Valentina, of Richmond, Virginia; Dr. Joshua Grubbs and wife, Kimberly Grubbs, and grandchildren, Peyton & Brantley, of Luckey, Ohio; his precious, beloved daughter, Mary-Hannah Grubbs, of the home. He is preceded in death by his parents and niece, CarolAnn Toney. Joe’s older sisters – Joyce Miller and Janice Turner– still live with their spouses – Arthur Miller and Andy Turner, respectively – in Caswell County, NC.
Joe will be honored with a Celebration of Life service at Baynes Baptist Church at 12:00 noon, on Saturday, February 8, 2020, with a time of fellowship to follow at the Baynes Baptist Church Lighthouse. The Reverends John Codispoti & Larry McCarty will officiate the celebration. The family gratefully declines flowers and asks that donations be made to: the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or Semora Baptist Church.
