Mr. Joseph W. Gilbert, 70, of Graham, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018 at The Hospice Home of Burlington.
Mr. Gilbert was born in Fingerville, SC to the late William Claude and Eloise Underwood Gilbert.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Allison Gilbert of 45 years; daughter, Elizabeth Shreve and husband Stephen; son, Brandon Gilbert and partner Tara Corbett; two grandsons that meant everything to him, Eli Hayes and JoJo Gilbert; two brothers, Claude Eugene Gilbert of Greer, SC and Johnny Gilbert and wife Judy of Lyman, SC; one sister, Doris McCombs and husband Kenneth of Lyman, SC; and a host of nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by sister, Vera Crow.
Mr. Gilbert was a graduate of the Class of ‘66 at James F. Byrnes High School. He was in the insurance business for over 42 years with the last 20 years with Western Southern Life Insurance Company. He was a member of Lighthouse Bible Church in Burlington. Joseph enjoyed working in the yard and working jigsaw puzzles that he framed and gave to family, friends, and local business. He also did a lot with his two grandsons, Eli and JoJo, whom he loved dearly.
The funeral service will be conducted at Lighthouse Bible Church on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Josh House with the family receiving friends from 12:00 noon until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. At other times, the family will be at the residence. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.
